Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Wall Stare ("Wall Stare," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the Wall Stare mobile application (the "App"). We built the App to be private by default: the core experience runs entirely on your device, and most of what you do never leaves your phone.
If you have questions, contact us at support@wallstare.app.
1. The short version
- The App works on your device. Your sessions, stats, name, and photos are stored locally on your phone by default.
- The camera is used only on your device to track your face and posture during a session. The live camera feed is never recorded, saved, or uploaded, and we never keep any footage of you during a session.
- Photos are optional. If you attach a photo to a session, or set a profile picture, it is stored on your device — and, if you sign in, synced to private account storage that only you can access.
- If you choose to sign in (with Apple, Google, or email), we sync your progress to a secure cloud account so you can back it up, use it across devices, and take part in cohorts and leaderboards with other players.
- We use privacy-respecting analytics and crash reporting to understand how the App is used and to fix problems. We never record the camera feed or any footage of you during a session.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the App.
Information you provide
- Profile details you enter, such as your display name, username, and an optional profile photo.
- Support messages. When you use "Talk to Support," we receive the message you send, the category you select, and basic diagnostics (app version, operating system, device model) so we can help.
Camera and face data
- During a session, the App uses your device camera and Apple's on-device face- and motion-tracking to measure stillness and posture in real time. This processing happens locally on your device. We do not record, store, transmit, or have access to the live camera feed, and we do not keep any video, face-scan, or depth data from it. (Photos you deliberately add are covered in "Photos you add (optional)" below.)
Photos you add (optional)
- Session photos. After a session you may choose to attach a photo (for example, a picture of your wall). This is never captured automatically — you add it yourself. It is stored on your device, and, if you sign in, uploaded to private storage tied to your account that only you can access.
- Profile photo. An optional avatar you choose is stored on your device and, if you sign in, synced to your account. If you sign in with Google and have a Google profile picture, we may use it as your initial avatar.
Activity and usage data
- Session data such as session length, timestamps, stillness scores, streaks, the "coats of paint" and walls you unlock, and related statistics. This is stored on your device, and synced to your account only if you sign in.
Analytics and product-usage data
- To understand how the App is used and to improve it, we collect product-analytics data — for example, which screens you view, which features you use, onboarding steps, and events like starting or saving a session. If you have an account, this data is associated with your account so we can measure things like retention across your devices.
- Some of the answers you give during onboarding (such as a self-reported age range and how much you feel you use your phone) and progress signals (such as your streak and total sessions) are included so we can understand who the App helps. We do not send your real name or email to our analytics provider.
Account data (only if you sign in)
- Sign in with Apple. We receive a unique Apple-provided identifier (and, if you choose to share it, your name). Apple may provide a private relay email address rather than your real address.
- Google. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, name, and profile-picture URL from Google.
- Email. If you sign up with an email address and password, we receive your email address (and a marketing-email preference you can set). Your password is handled by our authentication provider and is not visible to us.
- We use this account information to create and secure your account and to sync your progress.
Automatically collected technical data
- Basic device and diagnostic information (such as app version, device model, and operating-system version) used to keep the App working and to troubleshoot problems.
- Crash and error reports. If the App crashes or hits an error, we collect diagnostic reports (including a technical stack trace and, for signed-in users, your account identifier) so we can find and fix the problem.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, or health records.
3. How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- provide the App and its core features;
- save and sync your progress if you create an account;
- run cohorts and leaderboards (which may display your chosen display name, username, and avatar to other participants);
- respond to your support requests;
- maintain the security and integrity of the App;
- understand and fix problems and improve the App;
- comply with legal obligations.
4. How information is shared
We share information only as needed to run the App:
- Apple. Sign in with Apple is handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy.
- Google. If you choose to sign in with Google, Google handles that sign-in under Google's own privacy policy.
- Service providers (processors). We use trusted vendors to operate the App on our behalf, including Supabase (account, authentication, and progress- and photo-sync hosting), Resend (delivery of account and support emails), PostHog (product analytics), and Sentry (crash and error reporting). These providers process data only to provide their services to us. Some of them, including PostHog and Sentry, store data on servers in the United States.
- Other players. If you join a cohort or leaderboard, your display name, username, and avatar are visible to other participants. Do not use a name or photo you want to keep private.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the App.
- Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. Data retention
- Information stored on your device remains until you delete the App or clear its data.
- If you have an account, we keep your synced data until you delete your account. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account, which permanently removes your account and the cloud data associated with it. Data stored locally on your device is not affected by account deletion.
6. Your choices and rights
- Access your data. Most of your data is visible directly in the App.
- Delete your account and cloud data. Use Settings → Account → Delete account.
- Camera permission. You can revoke camera access in your device's system settings at any time; some session features will not work without it.
- Notifications. You can turn notifications on or off in your device settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA, including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to certain processing. To make a request, contact support@wallstare.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
7. Children's privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encryption in transit and access controls at our service providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International data transfers
Our service providers may process and store information in countries other than the one in which you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective date" above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the App.
